CBA Innovation Lab
The bank's first dedicated innovation space, with beacon-guided tours, gesture control, VR, a multitouch table and live transaction data.
We helped Commonwealth Bank open its first dedicated innovation space, showcasing the bank’s latest technology, security and financial products. The Innovation Lab combined touchscreens, motion control, projection and VR into a single, highly interactive environment.
The lab grew and travelled over time, adapting for exhibitions and activations including CeBIT and the CBA Business Bar, where touch tables and mobile apps let customers and partners explore the bank’s evolving products.
The experiences included:
- a Business Bar multitouch table for exploring case studies and innovations
- a tablet-driven guided tour that used beacons to follow and assist visitors
- gesture-controlled product exploration with Leap Motion
- a data visualisation tool for insight into the bank’s transaction data
- a VR simulation of a day in the life of a CBA customer, showing its products in context

Beacon-guided tours
A tablet tour guide used beacons to trigger content automatically as visitors moved through the space.
Big data, made visible
A real-time data exploration tool drew on the bank's view of around 40% of Australian transactions, giving businesses insight into market trends.
Gesture-controlled products
An interactive 3D product explorer driven by Leap Motion, so visitors could explore banking products without touching a thing.
Business Bar multitouch table
A large multitouch table for exploring case studies and financial innovations, later adapted into a tablet version for presentations on the go.
